About Me
Entering the Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts program, I sought to bridge my background in Communication Studies and Photography with a deeper understanding of interaction design. While my previous studies had provided me with fundamental research and design skills, I recognized the need for specialized expertise to thrive in a field increasingly shaped by emerging technologies and user-centric approaches. This program offered a unique opportunity to expand my technical and creative capabilities, laying the groundwork for a career in interaction design.
Throughout my MIDEA journey, I developed both technical skills and a user-centered mindset. Learning structured methodologies like the Double Diamond (Design Council, 2005) and Design Thinking helped me approach complex challenges in a systematic way, enhancing my problem-solving abilities. Engaging in user research, including interviews and usability testing, taught me the importance of empathy in design, ensuring my work truly aligned with user needs. Hands-on experience with tools like Figma and p5.js allowed me to transform ideas into interactive prototypes, strengthening my technical expertise and communication of design concepts. Additionally, I learned to balance aesthetics with functionality, understanding how visual elements can enhance usability and create more engaging user experiences.
A key takeaway from the program was the development of practical skills that are essential for the industry. Proficiency in Figma has allowed me to excel in prototyping and collaborative design, while Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) provided a solid foundation for creating and refining visual assets. I also gained confidence in creative coding through p5.js, enabling me to prototype interactive elements with a focus on innovation.
In terms of theoretical concepts, usability heuristics (Nielsen, 1994) taught me to prioritize intuitive design elements that make interfaces user-friendly. Affinity diagramming (Van Boeijen et al., 2020) enhanced my ability to organize complex data and synthesize findings effectively. These theories, combined with practical experience, have become integral to my design process, supporting both creative and analytical approaches.
Reflecting on my MIDEA journey, I recognize how far I’ve come in both my skill set and design philosophy. The program’s emphasis on critical self-reflection has instilled in me a habit of assessing my work objectively and continuously seeking improvement. This practice has been instrumental in my growth as a designer, equipping me with the tools to deliver thoughtful, impactful solutions that are both innovative and user-centered.
